Open houses are an easy, no pressure way to check out available apartments in Oak Park, Chicago, Forest Park and River Forest, and since our open houses are on Saturdays, and span several hours, most renters find them relatively convenient.
Open houses may vary slightly from place to place, but here’s what you can expect at an Oak Park Apartments Open House, as well as a few tips to help you prepare.
Preparing for an Apartment Open House
Oak Park Apartments hosts an open house every Saturday (with the exception of some holidays) between 10 am and 4pm. All tours begin at the Oak Park Apartments leasing office, located at 35 Chicago Avenue in Oak Park, IL. While no appointment is necessary, we do recommend following a few tips so that you can get the most out of your open house experience.
Review the Application Requirements
Most Chicago area apartments, including all Oak Park Apartments properties, require prospective tenants to complete an application. Before attending an open house, ensure you can meet all the application requirements. For example, can you provide income and residency verification, and do you have a strong credit score? If you do not meet the criteria, the leasing agent may not be able to show you any apartments.
Prepare a List of Apartments that You Would Like to See
Before attending an open house, take a look at the available apartments on our website and make a list of the units you’d like to see. For instance, are you interested in two-bedroom apartments in Oak Park, or would you prefer a one-bedroom apartment in Chicago? Keep in mind, however, that during the busy spring and summer seasons, we may not be able to accommodate all of your requests, especially units that are farther away from our office, such as those in Forest Park.
Provide Your Own Transportation
Most leasing agents, including those at Oak Park Apartments, cannot drive prospective tenants to the available apartments, so make sure you have your own transportation for the day of the open house. If you are unable to secure transportation, and the apartments you are interested in are not close to the office, consider calling (888) 512-8129 and scheduling a personalized tour during the week. We may be able to make arrangements for the leasing agent meet you at the apartment you are interested in touring.
Remember that our Oak Park Apartment open houses are first come, first-served, so the sooner you arrive at the leasing office, the better. Though we do our best to prepare for a large amount of visitors, you may experience longer waits during spring and summer, when we are busiest. We also ask that you arrive no later than 3:30pm to ensure that we are able to accommodate you.
You should always be respectful of the leasing agent’s time and use common courtesy when attending an open house. If the apartment still has a tenant, be respectful of their belongings, and avoid sitting on the furniture. While you’ll want to take a peek inside closets to ensure there’s enough storage space, it’s a good idea to ask permission first, and the same goes for taking photos or video.
Remember that the open house is your opportunity to learn everything you want to know about your Oak Park apartment. Ask how repair or service requests are handled, and inquire about quiet hours and building security. Does the building have laundry facilities? On-site parking? Is the apartment pet-friendly? Make sure you cover all the things you want to know about your potential new place.
